Abstract: Zonta Tirloer of the Swedish Foundry Association explores four reasons why foundries should seriously consider utilizing production simulation of foundry operations. Note that this is the production simulation - not solidification simulation. Produciton simulation is a computer model of reality or a planned reality. The model is three dimensional and animated. The production flow can be followed on the screen. This approach allows one to look to the future, optimize an existing installation, optimize order planning and create a model for training purposes. The Swedish Foundry Association has been developing this technique since 1996.
