Abstract: Casting simulation enables the metalcaster to participate early in the design process. A casting simulation package such as procast(tm) is suitable for analyzing mold filling along with normal solidification analysis. A list of questions that need to be answered before investing in modeling software is provided and one key question is that of having the right person and atmosphere to not only to use the results. Also provided is a list of criteria that should be used when evaluating a specific modeling software. These criteria include the question of automatic mesh generation and possible CAD and CAE file transfer formats.
