Use of simulation in the production of cast aluminum wheels

Meurer B, Haferkamp D, Jorg A/p> Casting plant and technology international, Volume 17, Pages 20-23, 2001

Abstract: During recent years, there has been a significant shift in the automotive industry toward aluminum wheels. This article expalins the use of casting simulaion using MAGMASOFT software. Individual examples are used to look at special casting defects that can be mapped with simulation and avoided through optimization. The results are compared with and confirmed by production experience and those published in the literature. Numerous photographs and figures accompany the article and special care is taken to fully describe the events that are occuring during the filling and solidification of the casting. Dendrite arm spacing, which is also calculated by MAGMASOFT, is also discussed in the article.
