American Foundry Society, Schaumburg
The American Foundry Society has research projects those are internally funded as well as jointly funded with external partners, industry alone, or industry with government partners. AFS is a partner with four consortiums: American Metal casting Consortium, Cast Metals Coalition, and Design for Product Optimization, Solidification Design and Control Consortium.
American Iron and Steel Institute, Washington, D.C
Research work carried out in this organization is mainly focused on continuous casting. The research activities involve understanding principles of heat-transfer, steel metallurgical properties and stress-strain relationships, to produce a product with excellent shape and quality. In recent years, the process has been optimized through integration of electro-mechanical sensors, computer-control.
American Metalcasting Consortium
AMC is improving metal casting technology and processes to support the Defence Logistics Agency (DLA) and Benet Labs in the design and procurement of critical cast parts. AMC integrates government, industry, and academia to raise efficiency levels of metalcasters throughout the U.S. AMC's mission is to develop new technologies that will rapidly deliver high quality warfighter.
Casting Consultants, Inc, Rochester
Various casting researches in the organization are: quality audits at various slab, bloom, and billet casting facilities, analysis of mold-level control-system problems on slab casters, assistance in engineering new single- and dual-strand slab casters, solving of quality problems in slab casting, Al-killed sheet steel and plate steel, analysis of operating and quality problems in the strand casting of lead.
Casting Industry Suppliers Association, Goodyear
The Casting Industry Suppliers Association (CISA) is a society of executives and managers representing companies that supply equipment, materials and services to the metalcasting industry.
Center for Iron and Steel Making Research, Pittsburgh
(CISR) is a University/Industry Cooperative Center within the department for Materials Science and Engineering. The CISR is the largest academic center for steelmaking research in the USA. Research is focused on: inclusion removal, determination of interfacial properties, the study of initial solidification phenomena, clogging during casting and the crystallization of mold fluxes.
Cast Metals Institute, Schaumburg
CMI exists to meet the needs of the metalcasting industry for continuing, scientific and technical education. As the educational arm of the American Foundry Society, the Cast Metals Institute was founded on the belief that metalcasting personnel can achieve maximum effectiveness now and in the future only by participating in a continuing education program. CMI is that program!
Investment Casting Institute, Montvale
The Investment Casting Institute is a nonprofit corporation promote quality standards, and industry education. Highlighting Investment Casting applications that demonstrate process capability while offering key benefits to the end use customer. Institute also publishes Incast, the monthly magazine devoted to investment casting.
Non-Ferrous Founders Society, Park Ridge
NFFS member foundries utilize virtually every casting process, including: sand; permanent mold; investment; continuous cast; centrifugal; and die-casting. The principal metals cast in most non-ferrous foundries are aluminum and copper-alloys (brass & bronze), however some non-ferrous foundries may also pour magnesium, zinc, and other non-ferrous materials.
North America Die Casting Association, Wheeling
Research works in this center is carried out on various topics. Some of the research objectives are to understand the phenomena involved in the filling of the die cavity, fill parameters, part quality to make the defect-free cavity filling and to determine the effects of gate geometry at part entry and gate velocity to achieve ultimate cast quality.
